As many of you are aware, I volunteer for Southeastern Guide Dogs in the capacity of puppy sitting. I help out the hard working puppy raisers that take a dog into their homes for 10-12 months, love them, teach them good manners, basic obedience and then willingly return them to Southeastern in the hope that they will become service dogs to the visually impaired, veterans and others who need the special support that only a dog can offer. When a puppy raiser takes a break, I step in and keep the dog until their return. This has offered me the opportunity to interact with many different dogs over the last few years and really gain an understanding of the invaluable service that Southeastern offers the community.
Southeastern Guide Dogs relies 100% on private donations, receives no government funding, and doesn't charge students and veterans for their services. The Walkathon is their biggest fundraiser of the year.
I am having a "BIG" birthday this year, it falls on the day of the Tampa Walkathon. I have been blessed with everything I could want- a supportive and loving husband, three great sons, fantastic friends and a very comfortable life. While gifts are nice, the gift I would enjoy the most is giving to something that matters to me. Please consider a donation to this very worthwhile organization for my birthday.
