Did you know that Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds, raises, and trains some of the finest guide dogs and service dogs in the world? The puppies are adorable, but to witness these amazing dogs in training is nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to the intelligence and fine training of these dogs, people with vision loss and veterans with disabilities find the freedom, confidence, and independence they need.
When I learned that Southeastern Guide Dogs relies 100% on private donations, receives no government funding, and doesn't charge students and veterans for their services, I knew I wanted to get involved. I volunteer as a puppy raiser and it is incredibly rewarding to raise one of these extraordinary puppies. When I found out that I could help raise funds for Southeastern Guide Dogs too, that's when I decided to participate in their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Walkathon. We will be doing this again for 2019!!
Last year we received our sweet Millie puppy to raise on December 21st--just in time for Christmas! What a cute bundle of joy she was then. Now she has turned one, grown and matured and is learning a lot to prepare her for her return to campus in February to begin her formal training for the future career that is chosen for her. We will be sad when we say farewell but we know that she will be a special dog for someone who truly needs her--that is why we raise these puppies and have been doing so since 1998. She is the tenth puppy that has spent time being raised on our home. We will return to Florida in March for another important reason and that is to participate in the annual Walkathon fundraiser to allow the necessary funds to be raised so that all of the wonderful things at Southeastern Guide Dogs can continue to happen. This is a place where lives are truly changed for the better and we could not be more proud of being a small part in this endeavor.
We thank you for any donation you have made in the past and we hope you will contribute once more this year. If it is your first time we thank you for being open to supporting our endeavor--you will not regret it!!
