Below is the mission statement I have used before, and every word is so true I hesitate to change it, but Southeastern Guidedogs, though your generous help, has been able to expand their mission. They have been placing more highly trained dogs with patients, to include children, whose medical conditions require canine assistance, We saw this firsthand, when we had friends, with a family member, a young girl, who became critically ill. She was left with a health condition, and also with the high anxiety that her illness caused. SEGD brought them to Palmetto to meet the dog that has changed her life. Anxiety can be a crippling disease. Placing dogs with children who have faced disabilities, critical diseases, and in the case of our Gold Star children, the loss of a parent, has made an enormous difference in their lives.
I raise money for Southeastern Guidedogs because it's a cause both Joe and I believe in with all our hearts. We've seen first hand the difference Guide Dogs make, in our home, in the lives of our friends, and most of all, in the testimonials by veterans, who have been unable to accomplish the smallest tasks. Coming home, they felt diminished and paralyzed by fear. Many with children were unable to participate in family life, until they were paired with a dog. Feeling out of step with the rest of the world, especially when you have small children, is a tragedy. Not being able to leave home is heart-breaking. SEGD places Paws for Patriots with women as well as men, and frees them from the terror that has dominated their lives. Dogs empower people, it's really something of a miracle!
Joe spoke at a fundraiser for Southeast Guidedogs in Sarasota. He echoed a sentiment he's heard SEGD's director, Titus say. I'm not quoting precisely but the meaning is that while some need dogs because they can not see, some need dogs because they have seen too much. SEGD has a mission that will continue as long as the generosity of its donors continues.
Your gift will help Southeastern Guide Dogs carry on their mission of placing highly skilled dogs with those who need them most, through their seeing eye program, and through Paws for Patriots, their program for veterans, helping those suffering from disabilities and illnesses,as well as our Gold Star families.
